Together Again - Kingmaker

This is the fourth audio tape in the Together Again series and is intended as a tribute to Terry Nation.

The cover photo is a 'Three Wise Monkeys' style picture featuring Paul, Gareth and Peter as 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil'. Now guess who gets to be which monkey <grin>.

The first side features Gareth Thomas, Paul Darrow and David Moloney (who was producer for the first three series). Also present was Judith Smith who was the production secretary. The introduction of David Maloney into the mix sparked off a lot of new stories that I hadn't heard before. It's amazing how many different Vere Lorrimer stories there are! It was particularly interesting to hear about the early days of fandom and how Judith ended up tackling a large box of unanswered fanmail that had been addressed to the series rather than to individual actors. This led onto the subject of things that the cast have been given over the years and some of the fanmail. Paul's had some interesting photos from female fans... Gareth complained that all he ever got were letters from children saying, "My mum thinks you're wonderful." My teenage son, who was listening with me, burst out laughing at this point!

The second side of the tape replaced David Malony with Peter Tuddenham (Zen, Orac, Slave) and gave him a chance to vehemently refute some of the stories that Paul and Gareth have told about him over the years. There are several interesting convention stories on this tape: Peter told of an unusual invitation to California, Gareth of an extremely ironic experience in Australia. Paul told of the fate of Terry Nation's new tie and explained the problems of going to the loo at a convention. There was general agreement on the kindness and generosity of fans.

This is an enjoyable tape, with the especial bonus that virtually nothing was repeated from earlier tapes. I've listened to most of it three times now, and I'm still smiling as I listen. There's occasional minor problems with the volume level as David Maloney has a very variable voice and Sheelagh was mikeless, but that's my only quibble. Buy it and enjoy it and look forward to the next one in the series.

It's available from Sheelagh Wells, 20A New Road, Brentford, Middlesex, TW8 0NX, England. Price 8.25 inc P+P within the UK and $15 in the US. Also available from Judith Proctor at the same price.
