In Powerplay, Tarrant, pretending to be a Federation officer, told the troopers that he wanted 'every inch' of the Liberator checked, the context making it obvious that he was referring to square inches.
In Deliverance, Blake said that the coordinates placed the capsules 'within one square mile'.
In Traitor, Quute ordered launchers 3 and 17 to get ready for a neutron strike in a 'fifty metre' bracket pattern around Igin's tracer. The 'fifty meters' may have been short for 'a square area of fifty metres a side', i.e. an area of 2,500 square metres, which would fit in with the intention to kill all in Igin's unit. (The old twentieth century Earth definition of a 'bracket', the distance between a pair of shots fired, within which a target might lie, to find the range for artillery, must have been replaced by one of area bombardment, as Igin's position was precisely known.)
In The Harvest of Kairos, Servalan told Zen to destroy the zone immediately below them 'in a square of fifty surface spacials'.
