Blake's 7 - on DVD

After much delay and argument, it appears that Blake's 7 will be released on DVD soon, this is with a different set of extras to those originally planned.

The release date is now 1st March.

The news all sci-fi fans have been waiting for - BBC Worldwide have confirmed the release date of Blake's 7 on DVD for 26th Jan 2004. The entire first series - all thirteen episodes - will be released on a massive 5-disc set, with a running time of more than ten hours.

The story of an interplanetary resistance group battling for survival against a totalitarian super-power was first shown in BBC television in 1978. Created by Terry Nation it became an instant hit, regularly attracting audience figures of over 8 million.

Gareth Thomas starred as Blake, the heroic rebel leader of the freedom fighters, who, together with his crew, including Sally Knyvette as Jenna, Jan Chappell as Cally and Paul Darrow as Avon, weekly battled the dark forces of Federation led by Supreme Commander Servalan, played by Jacqueline Pearce.

Altogether four series were made between 1978 and 1981 but the very last episode - with its cataclysmic ending - was watched by over 10 million people.

BBC Video originally released twenty-six videos of this cult sci-fi series between 1991 and 1992, selling over 650,000 copies. This brand new 5-disc DVD digi-pack contains all 13 episodes from Series 1 and a host of special features including:-
